Is Back To School Making Your Kids Sick??

Back Pack Safety Tips to Prevent Injuries

As a family Chiropractic office, every fall, it seems we are seeing more and more
school-aged children complaining of back pain. 90% of the time we find that the cause is improper backpack use. Backpacks have been and are an important part of school, but are they actually creating injuries?....Could they be hazardous to your child's health?

The answer to the question is simple....it is a resounding NO!
But only if you keep in mind the backpack safety tips listed below:

Top 5 Back Pack Safety Tips For Parents

5. Every Sunday empty out your child's backpack and review what they have stuffed inside. You will be surprised what items accumulate inside that add unnecessary weight.

4. Check the backpack straps for proper shoulder placement, making sure that the bottom of the backpack is two inches above the waist and resting in the curve of the lower back.

3. Continue weekly reminders that wearing the backpack on both shoulders prevents poor posture.

2. Weigh your child's backpack once a week to determine if it is within the safe range. The backpack should weigh 15% or less of your child's body weight.

1. If your child is not under regular Chiropractic care, check your child's shoulder and head level at least once a month to determine if they are showing early signs of repetitive stress in their growing spine. A family wellness Chiropractor who is trained to detect early signs can perform this exam. Like Dentistry, early detection and correction is the key to better health!
