I Believed My Mother

Wilma Rudolph won 3 gold medals in the 1960 Olympic Games, making her the fastest woman on the planet during that time period. She was not always fast. Only four and a half pounds when she was born, she contracted polio at an early age and was given a grim prognosis. Fortunately, her mother didn’t buy in to the doom and gloom. When Wilma was asked about overcoming the challenges in her childhood, she responded by saying, “The doctors told me I would never walk. My mother told me I would. I believed my mother.”
Who do you believe about your health, or for that matter about what is possible? Maybe it is time that you become optimistic about your health, healing and longevity potential so that you can maximize the quality of your life on every level. Research on epigenetics, how environmental factors influence your genes, shows again and again that optimism and healthy lifestyle choices activate genes that help your body to heal more quickly, increase your resistance to infection, and enjoy life more.
Transferring healthy beliefs to your loved ones, especially your children can make a difference in their lives when they are very young and give them the foundation for healthy thoughts and choices throughout their lifetime. What can be scary is that we are transferring our beliefs whether we know it or not. Many times, while our intention is to raise a healthy drug free family, we are actually programming drug dependency instead.
Think about what happens when your baby is born and runs a fever for the first time. If you are not educated about your body’s natural immunity, you might let fear take over and to alleviate your child’s suffering, rush to give your child a drug.

As they grow up to be toddlers, they may get a cold or an injury, and rather than let the body heal itself naturally and do things to support their innate immunity, you make them feel better by giving them a drug.
Millions of unnecessary drugs have been given to children, and adults, to quench these fears. Unfortunately, these medications often compromise an individual’s immune system over the long haul and have even led to a global problem of super-infections, or infections caused by highly resistant bacteria.
As children grow, if each time they complain we pawn them off to a drug, what are we teaching them? If they are having difficulty learning and focusing in school and rather than find them a new teacher or tutor we just give them a drug, where are they learning to find solutions? If every time their head hurts, their knee hurts or they become sad we give them a drug, they are being indoctrinated into an unconscious drug oriented world. Is it any wonder that when their boy or girlfriend breaks up with them, they don’t make the sports team or become accepted by a peer, they turn to drugs? If you are the leader in your family, consider drugs as a last resort and make a healthy drug free lifestyle your top priority.

As chiropractors, we see miracles everyday in our practices where people of all ages are diagnosed with severe conditions or disabilities and overcome them. We also see individuals achieve personal records in athletics, academics and even business because they believe in and nurture their innate potential.

We will do our part to keep your body and mind functioning at optimum levels. You do your part by believing in yourself and remaining optimistic, in spite of challenging circumstances.
